Has your Fat Loss Mission Suddenly Come to a Grinding Halt?
So, many of you may have a special occasion to look forward to and have been dieting hard for the special event. However, what happens when dieting is all too often fat loss will stop…sometimes just out of the blue! You may be wondering what you need to do to get back on track.
Firstly, here’s what NOT to do:
- Slash your calories
- Cut all carbs or fat
- Add cardio
- Add complexity, i.e. carb cycling, fasting days
- Add a fat burner
- Cry!
Here is what to DO instead…
Relax. Everyone loses fat at a different pace. And it is rarely a linear “pound a week”, every week especially if you have been dieting for more than six weeks
Look at lifestyle/sleep. Are you in a consistent sleep/eat/train pattern? Are you finding time to relax every day?
Verify activity. Are you hitting all your prescribed workouts? How active are you throughout the day? Are you hitting your step count? I like to ask my clients to try and walk 7-10 thousand steps per day whenever possible. It really does help. If you walk 10k steps per day for a week, you should roughly lose 1 pound of fat. Now, that’s not bad going is it?
Monitor for a few more weeks. After you have addressed the above, give your current approach another week or two but really be on the ball and with a heightened sense of awareness. You may indeed need to adjust calories or cardio if nothing changes, especially if you have been on the same plan for a few months, but first try to get the most out of what you are already doing.
